I was listening to music on my way to work, as I normally do. I was listening to a song I've heard so many times before. As I was singing along, God spoke to me through the words of the song. I'm not sure if it's something that was specifically for me, personally, or if it's something I'm meant to share for someone else. The song I was listening to was “Hello Beautiful” by MercyMe. If you've never heard it you can find it here.
Anyway, the song is about knowing who you are and not listening to lies – whether it's lies that you tell yourself, lies that others have told you about yourself, literally anything that the enemy tries to use to keep you fearful – and literally saying, “hey regret! I see you! Loneliness? Yeah, you're there too. Emptiness. Psh! I know you're all there, but I am beautiful and you all have to go!” At least that's what it's saying to me. However, the second verse is what really jumped out to me -
“Can you hear it? That's the sound of me walking out Of this prison cell That I've come to know so well I used to play the victim Singing take these chains from me They've long been broken I was free and would not leave Somehow I got too comfortable locked up here in this prison That I missed the doors wide open more like ripped off of its hinges
We ALL have prison cells that we hold ourselves captive in. If you are a child of God, what are you doing hanging out in your prison cell? The moment you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, those chains are gone, that cell door is busted wide open. Why do we keep playing the victim? I'm guilty of it too, don't get me wrong, but this song hit me really hard. I've listened to it at least 100 times, and it finally hit me!
We get so comfortable with where we are, even though we don't like it. We are use to not being good enough, always to blame, etc. But we are His children, we need to throw those chains off and march out of that cell. Like in a cop show where they blow a door off to get into a locked building and storm in, we should RUN through that door because Jesus has blasted that door off JUST FOR YOU! Whatever your prison is, you are not alone, if you let Jesus into your life, He will break you out! You just have to ask.
